About the Exhibition

“The Space Between” explores the relationship between female identity and the environment, evaluating women’s perceptions of place amidst a complex social climate through a myriad of perspectives. By compiling works of women artists from a variety of backgrounds, demographics, and authentic experiences, the exhibition allows audiences the opportunity to identify patterns between women’s circumstances and surroundings on both individual and collective levels. In an effort to build bridges between certain regions and locations, the exhibition focused on women artists currently living in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. WCA NYC encouraged submissions from a diverse female audience to enable underrepresented voices to participate whilst highlighting the inherent values that women hold concerning concepts of dwelling and place. “The Space Between” sought multiple interpretations on the theme, including two and three-dimensional works and audio-visual installations to create connections within an admixture of mediums. “The Space Between” is juried by Jeanne Brasile, Director of the Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey.

About Women’s Caucus for Art

“The Space Between” is organized by The Women’s Caucus for Art New York City Chapter (WCA NYC). WCA provides women with leadership opportunities and advocates for arts equity for all.

About Alfa Art Gallery

Alfa Art Gallery is a non-profit organization devoted to the discovery, growth, and support of emerging and established artists within the art community. Since its establishment, Alfa has conducted numerous shows featuring local, national, and international artists that explore a variety of media: oil color, watercolor, mixed media, sculpture, photography, crafts, and glassworks. Exhibiting artists are granted the opportunity to demonstrate their creative process in Alfa’s open studio and gallery, thus affording collectors and visitors the ability to learn about and follow the artists’ techniques, styles, and motivations. Additionally, Alfa plays a vital role among local and national visual arts organizations by supporting and presenting artists’ works, and functions as a space for interdisciplinary art and art criticism. Each season, Alfa invites professional art curators to provide criticism and guidance to artists and artworks on display to help collectors and patrons identify works that express their particular vision or purpose.
