About Linda Stein

Linda Stein is a feminist artist, activist, educator, performer, and writer. She is the Founding President of the non-profit Have Art: Will Travel! Inc (HAWT) for Gender Justice, addressing bullying and diversity.

For more than four decades, her work has addressed issues of persecution and protection, focusing on the oppression of the “other” through the lens of anti-bullying and social justice. As a lifelong New Yorker, she was moved to shift her practice post-9/11 from abstract to figurative. Linda has since become indebted to promoting the Upstander archetype an average individual with an extraordinary superpower of doing the right thing.

Artist Statement

In Covid Story: An Artist Sheltered in Place on the 31st Floor, Linda offers a love-poem to New York and its essential workers. With fantasy and factual images from high above the city streets, she connects the strength of the human figure with the actions of essential workers. In these eight minutes, the artist asks you to consider the dichotomy between power and vulnerability, masculinity and femininity, and aggressor and defender
