Artist Statement

Pavol Olsavsky III is a Slovakian born artist based in NJ and NY. His work ranges from paintings to woodwork.

Pavol creates mysterious landscapes and environments that envelop the human figure, speaking to the unexplored world of subconsciousness and emotion that stand before the human eyes.

His use of vibrant color, expressive strokes, and the human figure help portray a concern for human emotions and an awareness of the impact sensibility has on an individual.

Although Pavol received education in America (BFA, Rutgers University, MFA, New York Academy of Art), his developed style is very much connected to his Slovak roots and culture where he was born. Being exposed to Roman Catholic churches at an early age and the art it’s composed of, namely the stainglass windows, his work now embodies a deep spirituality, meaningful color, and a sense of storytelling.

Pavol studied under prominent contemporary artists such as, Will Cotton, Eric Fischl, Vincent Desiderio, and Hanneline Rogeberg among others.

He currently works for a contemporary fine art gallery and an art advisory in New York City, serves as the parish artist for a Catholic parish in New Jersey, and is an active member of the Catholic Artists Society.

His work includes murals, sculptures, and paintings, some of which can be seen in various public spaces in New Jersey, including commercial buildings, schools, and churches.
