Exhibition Duration: April 2nd, 2024 – June 1st, 2024

In-Person Reception: April 6th, 2024 @ 6:30pm to 9:30pm

The Alfa Art Gallery is pleased to present Vesselin Kourtev’s upcoming 2024 solo exhibition: Resonance. Vesselin Kourtev is an internationally acclaimed fine art artist with almost 40 years of professional experience. In this solo exhibition, Kourtev presents us with his classic style of bold abstract impressionism, which aids us in learning more about different interpersonal relationships that humans form. His unique style stands out from the rest as he has been praised by many esteemed critics, fellow artists, and high-profile members of society. Maurice Taplinger, a writer for Gallery&Studio magazine, comments on Kourtev’s artwork by stating: “… the abstract elements in his canvases are as convincing as the visual metaphors he creates which is what makes the paintings of Vesselin Kourtev succeed on several levels simultaneously.”

Resonance explores how colors blend, bleed, and cross each other’s boundaries in order to create a specific narrative. The paint throughout this cycle drips with spontaneity, allowing the canvas to take on a shape of its own. Kourtev’s paintings consist of intricately drawn figures that seem ghostlike as they fade into the canvas. Themes of interpersonal relationships, human connection, and deep emotion are present across each intricate piece. The intention behind each painting is to persuade its audience to explore broader concepts of existence, as well as identify, through the nuance and abstraction of this cycle. Resonance contains similarities to previous cycles, but ultimately stands alone, as Kourtev includes elements of three-dimensionality, spontaneity, and paint splatter. Kourtev’s impressive evolution as an artist is evident through the newfound techniques he effectively implements throughout Resonance

With high levels of education and outstanding global exhibitions, his professional status as an artist precedes him. In his native country of Bulgaria, Kourtev received his high school diploma from the Fine Art School in Kazanlak. Then, he went on to earn his MFA from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, also located in Bulgaria. Since 1987, Kourtev’s work has been presented in 34 independent exhibitions, as well as 15 collective exhibitions, throughout Europe and North America. This includes countries such as: Bulgaria, the U.S.A., Czech Republic, Greece, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Turkey, and more.

Vesselin Kourtev founded the Alfa Art Gallery in 2007, after immigrating to the United States with his family in 2002. He has acted as the Head Arts Director ever since. With the goal of creating a hub for creativity, the gallery has effectively provided a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere to the New Brunswick community. As an established cultural cornerstone, the gallery presents a diverse array of local and international artwork across various mediums. And just like that, the gallery has now been in business for almost 17 years!

Please join us for the in-person exhibition opening of Resonance to witness a spectacular exhibit that you won’t want to miss!
