Inspired by nature, Lisa Marseglia-Moran’s work expresses the relationship that exists between all living things. She is continuously inspired by the Earth, plants and trees.

Her process begins with observing scenes and objects in the natural world. Often while hiking (especially through the Desert Southwest and Pacific Northwest), she takes hundreds of photographs for reference when she returns to her studio. Focusing more on color, line and shape, the images are not intended to be simply representational, but focus on the energy, movement and connection that she feels.

This series of mixed media pieces are combinations of handmade paper, watercolor, thread, enamel, pen and ink. Sand from the red rocks is often incorporated into pieces as a way of honoring the earth. The combination of media is representative of the connection that exists between the earth and its creatures.

At the end of each day, she collects all the paper scraps and recycles them into new pieces of handmade paper. The work is further related through this cycle of breaking down, remaking and reusing the paper; a metaphor for the circle of life.

In addition to mixed media works on paper, she works with oils, block prints, and pen and ink drawings.
