John Gummere is a Pennsylvania-based painter who began his creative career as an architecture student at Columbia University. Gummere has studied art in a variety of academic institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia College of Arts, and the Tyler School of Art. He uses a representational style to explore the light, color, and composition, using the medium of painting to construct space. Gummere most enjoys using the medium of painting to explore the geometry of spatial elements, searching for shapes that “seem to ‘rhyme’ or…’half-rhyme,’ in his words.
