About Pete Aldrich
Peter Aldrich received a BFA in Communications Design from Pratt Institute in 1975. His coursework included advertising and graphic design as well as photography. After working at various design studios in New York City and New Jersey he operated his own graphic design studio from 1988 to 2021 serving corporate clients.
His interest in photography as an art form began at Pratt and continued to grow and became the medium of choice for his personal work. Early influences included many, ranging from the fine art of Paul Strand and Edward Weston to the documentary work of Bruce Davidson. Design itself as well as the work of many corporate photographers also had an impact on his imagery.
Since 2005 he has shown his photography in solo exhibitions as well as regional and national juried group shows at galleries, art centers and alternative venues. Aldrich has received various awards and has photographs included in private collections.
Artist Statement
Over the years I have spent a lot of time on foot exploring and photographing urban areas of northern New Jersey. In this particular series I have covered towns from Union City to Jersey City. The essence of these places comes from the physical appearance of the infrastructure as well as the spirit of the people living and working there. I photograph things that are unique, thematic, rough and quirky in an effort to document the visual character of these communities.
