About Debora Thedinga

For Debora Thedinga, the pastime of painting serves not only as a means for deep relaxation, but as a noble and rewarding challenge for her artistic resolve. Whether painting indoors or in an outside setting (en plein air), Thedinga pushes herself to manipulate color, light, and space in a way that enables an expansive landscape to be viewed successfully through the small window of the canvass. This is a challenge that she has met with great enthusiasm, fervor, and skill as demonstrated by her rich, impressionistic paintings depicting familiar motifs of human design. From parks, farmhouses, and creeks, to manmade lakes, flower stands, and river crossings, each stroke of Thedinga’s brush comprises a world familiar to us all, but at the same time, a world all her own as seen through the window of the canvas. As she aptly states, “The creation of a mood that transports the viewer through this window and into the landscape is the ultimate reward”.

Artist Statement

“Whether in the studio or outside (en plein air), there are few pastimes more relaxing to me than a day spent painting. The ultimate goal is for my paintings to be both challenging and rewarding. The challenge is to use color, light, and space in a way that allows an expansive landscape to be viewed successfully through a small window. The creation of a mood that transports the viewer through this window and into the landscape is the ultimate reward.”
