About Carol Radsprecher

Carol Radsprecher was born in Brooklyn and remained in New York City to get her BFA and MFA in painting at Hunter College. Recently, she started to explore the stimulating world of photoshop and digital art. Through this medium, Radsprecher paints different layers with speed and in doing so is able to manipulate and render infinite variations of her abstracted figures. Each image contributes to a series that is both narrative and autobiographical in exploring the first landscape we see in the world– the female body. Radsprecher has shown her distorted representations at many galleries, evoking feelings of confusion as well as wonder which resonances with her audience. Her use of abstract shapes and colors only heighten the sense of mystery as to the artists intentions behind the piece leaving the viewer to project their own meaning onto her work.

Artist Statement

Distortion of the human figure is a key element in my work. These distorted representations of the figure interact with abstract areas. Most of the figures are representations of the female figure — that first landscape we see as we enter the world. My images are obliquely autobiographical and narrative; each image is one of a series.

I had been a painter for decades. Ten years ago, I started to explore the use of Photoshop, and this medium felt like second nature. The speed with which images can be made and evolve into other images; the ability to save prior renditions while the images continue to evolve; the seemingly infinite possibilities of what can be made visible; the ephemeral nature of virtual products, and the easy storage — all of these qualities inherent in working digitally are exciting and stimulating.
