About Gwynn Di Pilla

Gwynn Di Pilla received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Temple University and Tyler School of Art. Upon graduating, she accepted a full-time position teaching art in the Oxford Area School District while taking graduate courses in art at West Chester University. In 1993, Gwynn moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey and began teaching drawing at the Haddonfield Adult School, later adding a watercolor course. A few years later, she started the children’s Multi-Media for Young Artist Program which has been continuously running multiple sessions three times annually for 15 years. From 2001-07, she participated in the Art Goes to School initiative, a volunteer program that teaches art history to children.

Gwynn continued to develop her art. Several pieces were selected by the Haddonfield Tourism Committee to represent the town in a series of fourteen postcards, and some of these images were also published in print media and online. In 2001, Gwynn started a series of Jersey shore scenes. Limited edition prints of 12 (to date) are sold in shore galleries and stores. In 2002, Gwynn went back to school at the newly founded Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia where she studied drawing and painting for four years under the prominent portrait painter Nelson Shanks.

In the years since, Gwynn has continued to teach, adding additional classes. She remains an active artist, focusing on drawing in colored pencil, and painting in watercolor and oils. In late 2010, Gwynn began to enter exhibits and shows, and was honored to receive recognition as Best Artist from South Jersey Magazine in 2011. She has also promoted the work of her adult students by arranging art shows in local venues. From 2013-15, Gwynn was a member artist of Church St Art and Craft in Mt. Holly. In 2013 she was accepted as a Signature Member of the Philadelphia Water Color Society (PWCS), in 2018 a Signature Member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, and in 2019 a Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and the New Jersey Water Color Society (NJWCS). Starting in 2014, Gwynn has delivered workshops in colored pencil for the Willingboro Art Alliance, Rowan University, Medford Leas, and the Philadelphia Art Camp.

Artist Statement

“My goal is for my work to bring patrons to a place of serenity and beauty. Each image I create is based on series of photographs that I take, often altering the composition to achieve a sense of peacefulness and escape.”
