About Gary Wiesner

Gary Wiesner has an engineering background with 20 years of experience as a mold maker working in the plastic injection molding industry.  This experience has allowed him to transition into his current position as a Project Engineer for a local prototyping company. He has not taken any academic courses in pursuit of his photography business. He has taken various workshops to enhance his skills. Over the years, he has worked extensively with three professional photographers, in the photo club he is a part of.

New Brunswick Art Salon 2020 – Photography: Moments of Focus

This series is entitled “Urban Kaleidoscope, because the photographs have a kaleidoscopic nuance to their appearance, as seen in their colors, shapes, and patterns.  While the viewer cannot rotate a building as they can a kaleidoscope, if they adjust their perspective, or the light changes or the temperature changes, the image will transform.

Artist Statement

What you see here is reality.  It truly exists.  You just have to see it.  Using the medium of photography, it is my intention to present observations of this man-made world to create a deeper meaning for the viewer.  There is a saying, Eyes are the windows to the soul,” but what do we see when we look at a window?  Reflections.  What are these reflections?  They are reality, but reality can shift, and distortions can then be revealed due to the many elements of its surroundings.  The results allow the viewer to imagine endless possibilities.

Along my journey as a photographer it has always been my objective to stay true to the art of photography, and not digitally manipulate my photographs.  During the progression of this series, I realized that I have evolved from a photographer into a photographic artist.

My background in engineering has given me an appreciation of the constructed environment, and the magnificent architecture of the cities has become my playground for creativity.  Ultimately, my goal is for the viewer to discover a new and unique perspective of the city around them.
