Why do we celebrate May 24th?
This day honors the Saint Brothers, Kiril and Methody, founders of the Slavonic Alphabet. Since 1857, this day has been celebrated every year. May 24th is a holiday in itself, a day of spiritual uprising overviewing Bulgaria’s cultural and scientific achievements. Looking upon the letters written by Kiril and Methody as well as their translations of the liturgical books, shows the fight to protect the right to honor God in their own language. It is a historical significance to the development of the Bulgarian nation and becomes part of the general human idea for equality.
