Daniella Toscanini, “Colonial Park”, Acrylic, 24″x20”

Daniella Toscanini is a New Jersey-based fine artist working across watercolor, gouache, and acrylic, with a primary focus on landscape and plein air painting. Born in the Bronx, New York, and now residing in Edison, New Jersey, Daniella draws inspiration from landscapes, architecture, coastal scenes, and everyday moments encountered through travel and observation.

Daniella graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, and later pursued advanced training in Realism at The Art Academy in Hillsborough, New Jersey. Her passion for plein air painting began after she participated in the Bermuda Plein Air Festival in 2015, and over the last 1o years she has continued to participate in plein air events hosted by the Bermuda Arts Centre, with her work included in many exhibitions. Her experiences painting in Bermuda have had a lasting influence on her use of color, light, and atmosphere.

A member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, Daniella has exhibited in the Society’s Small but Mighty exhibition and Open Juried Exhibition, and she also participates in plein air events throughout New Jersey, including Plein Air Frenchtown. Working both on location and in her studio, she seeks to capture more than a literal representation of a place, using color, light, and expressive observation to convey the mood and essence of a landscape. Through her work, Daniella hopes to give viewers a sense of experiencing the places that have inspired her firsthand. Her paintings have also led to private commissions in Bermuda and throughout New Jersey.

Artist Statement

“My work explores landscapes, water, light, and quiet moments in nature through watercolor, gouache, and acrylic. Thank you very much for considering my work. I appreciate the opportunity to submit and look forward to hearing from you.

My work explores the quiet thresholds between landscape, memory, and atmosphere, where natural environments become sites of emotional reflection and shifting perception. Working primarily through painterly studies of light and place, I am drawn to moments of transition—dusk, weather changes, and the subtle tension between stillness and movement.

The works in this submission form a connected body of observations across coastal, marsh, and domestic landscapes, each one shaped by a sensitivity to light as both subject and structure. In Nighttime Lilies, Before the Storm, and Harbor Silence, I examine the charged stillness that precedes or follows change, where forms are softened and sound feels suspended. Works such as Marsh Light, Last Light, and Lavender Passage continue this exploration of fading illumination and the emotional resonance of twilight.

Other pieces, including The Green Hat, Sunlit Courtyard, and Passage Through Palawan, introduce human presence more directly, yet remain grounded in atmosphere rather than narrative, suggesting fleeting encounters and remembered spaces. Barnegat Bay Reflections anchors the series in a specific ecological environment, reflecting my ongoing interest in coastal ecologies and the fragile balance between land and water.

Across these works, I aim to create spaces of quiet attention—inviting viewers to pause within environments that feel both familiar and slightly out of reach, where light becomes a language for memory, transition, and presence.”
