About Lynnette Shelley
Lynnette Shelley is a Pennsylvania-based contemporary artist who specializes in representational animal and nature paintings. While her focus concentrates on ink and acrylic, Shelley incorporates collage by using hand-cut and colored watercolor paper to mimic mosaic tile. Her inspiration comes from her love of archetypes, wildlife, and patterns, which are all embodied within her work. In response to her dedicated time in her practice, she was awarded “Master Artisan” by the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Alongside her art, Shelley is a member of two bands, The Red Masque and Green Cathedral.
Artist Statement
“One of my primary artistic interests is exploring animals, icons and archetypes. Although my animal and nature-themed paintings are representational, they are not realistic, but rather a fantastical stylization. I want viewers to envision their own fairytale when they see my work.
Animalistic imagery and themes can be seen in pop culture in everything from folklore and mythology to cartoons, logos and mascots. My artwork takes a closer look at this archetypal animal kingdom. Reinterpreted through art, abstraction, decorative element and contemporary vision, these creatures speak to our collective unconscious.”
