Biography
Susan Powell is a Photographer who grew up in Union, New Jersey. She currently resides in Highland Park, New Jersey with her family where she has lived for the last 19 years. Her interest in photography began with a photography class in high school and has continued in recent years with the expansion of digital photography technology.
She has been a member of the Raritan Photography Society for three years. Susan has had photos included in Raritan Photographic Society’s gallery exhibitions in the Raritan Bay Gallery at the Venetian Care Center in South Amboy and at the Alfa Art Gallery Exhibit in early 2015.
Susan sells her work online and received recognition for work exhibited at the Boxed In Art Show in 2013. Susan has had photographs in several exhibits including “Jersey Bayshore” with the AJ Dillon Gallery in Atlantic Highlands in 2016, “Coastal Inspirations” with the Heaven Gallery in Asbury Park in 2016 and several exhibits with the Raritan Photographic Society at the Alfa Art Gallery in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Artist Statement
Capturing a moment in time. Finding that interesting perspective. To me, photography is the challenge to see something within the ordinary and photograph it in a way that reveals a captivating subject. By exploring the simple and generally familiar I work to find a way to bring light, color and textures together making the simple and familiar more compelling, allowing the viewer to experience the details and mood of a scene otherwise unnoticed.

Accentuating the lines and shadows, textures and shapes-photography is a way of capturing a simple image and presenting it as envisioned in an interesting way.
