DESCRIPTION:This lecture is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30pm. Lecture begins at 6:30pm sharp. Following the lecture Dr. Raskin will answer questions and sign selected prints*. \n  \nJoin us for a slide show and lecture by Dr. Ilya Raskin\, Professor of Biology at Rutgers University\, President of the Global Institute for BioExploration and an internationally published photographer. \nDr. Raskin will tie together the art of photography\, the science of biology and a spirit of adventure as his work is projected on a large screen at Alfa Art Gallery in New Brunswick\, NJ. He will share photographs from his visits to remote corners of the world as well as stories of encounters with the people\, animals and plants living there. This lecture coincides with the photography show entitled Landscapes of the Soul\, currently on exhibit at Alfa Art Gallery until 1/27/2011. \n  \nAbout  Dr. Ilya Raskin\nDr. Ilya Raskin is a professor of biology at Rutgers University and president of the Global Institute for BioExploration (GIBEX). Dr. Raskin is a leader in the field of plant-derived medicines and international bioexploration\, conservation and sustainable development. Dr. Raskin’s research is featured in over 160 scientific publications and in numerous popular press articles. He has been listed as one of the 108 most cited researchers in Plant and Animal Science (Institute of Scientific Information) and is a recipient of Albert Shull Award for outstanding contributions to plant biology and the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards for revolutionary product innovation and scientific breakthrough. Dr. Raskin was named the Century Innovator in Botany by the U.S. News & World Report. \n \nPhotography has been Dr. Raskin’s passion since childhood. His work enables him to travel to many remote locations and help local communities conserve biodiversity\, preserve traditional knowledge\, and improve health and quality of life. His camera allows him to share these places with the world. His focus on nature is driven by the desire to preserve the memory of its rapidly disappearing wild splendor. His photographs are regularly published in major magazines and attract attention from the art galleries and collectors.
