SUMMARY:2013 - Jan 5 @ 7pm - Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition at the Alfa Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Opening:  Saturday\, January 5 @ 7pm – 10pmExhibition Duration: January 5 – 8\, 2013 \nGreater Brunswick Charter School (GBCS) is delighted to announce the first public exhibition of two-dimensional art by its current elementary and middle school students.  This exhibition highlights the work students created in the first 70 days of school.  It represents students’ experiments and play with materials and techniques\, while it demonstrates the diversity of artistic visions within the GBCS student body. \nThe students at GBCS are some of New Brunswick’s most creative thinkers and makers.  They create well-developed\, dynamic images of the world in which they live. As contemporary artists\, they respond to their environment and their experiences by playing with lines\, shapes\, and colors until they best represent their ideas.  They are inspired by pop culture\, electronics\, observations of their environment\, frustrations\, fantasy worlds\, and familial relationships.  \nAs the students develop as artists\, they gain proficiency with their materials and develop methods\, marks\, and symbols that define their artistic voice. Some have chosen to work within one medium\, while others have embraced the full range of materials available to them. Because students at GBCS decide how\, what\, and why they create\, they learn to make choices and motivate themselves as practicing artists would.  They establish studio habits and creative thinking skills they can take anywhere. \nDiana Sanderson\, Art Educator at GBCS\, graduated in 2009 from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an M.A. in Art Education.  She positions her teaching practice in the realm of relational and performance art.  Now in her third year at GBCS\, she has created a classroom environment that teaches for artistic behavior. She curated this exhibition in collaboration with Amanda Lyons. \nAmanda Lyons\, collage and fiber artist with a passion for storytelling\, is particularly enchanted by children’s art.  As a GBCS parent and former teacher\, she curated large-scale student exhibitions at GBCS. A New Brunswick native and Rutgers graduate\, she is delighted to have the opportunity to curate this exhibition with Diana Sanderson and share the beauty of GBCS with our New Brunswick Community. \nImages from the opening reception \n\n\n\n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition \n \n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n \n Greater Brunswick Charter School Student Exhibition
