SUMMARY:2017 - May 27 @ 5:30pm - Bulgarian Education\, Culture and Slavonic Literature Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:May 28th\, 2017 at 5:30pm -11:00pm \n \nAlfa Art Gallery invites you to join us in celebrating Bulgarian Education and Culture\, and Slavonic Literature Day. Our reception starts at 5:30 pm on Sunday\, May 28th 2017. The event will take place at the gallery on 108 Church Street\, New Brunswick\, NJ\, 08901.   \nAlfa has the pleasure of presenting Kopriva the dance group performing Bulgarian folk dances and the band Alfa BG performing a selection of Bulgarian music.  \nThis event has no admission fee and is open to the public. Feel free to bring food and snacks to share with everyone\, and don’t forget your dancing shoes!  \nBulgaria celebrates May 24th as the day of the Bulgarian Education\, Culture and Slavic Script\, the official Day of Holy Brothers St. Kiril and St. Methody - the Byzantine scholars who wrote the first Slavic alphabet in 855 A.D.\, and translated into Old Bulgarian the Bible and the religious literature of Orthodox Christianity.   \nSince 1857\, May 24th is a day of spiritual uprising overviewing Bulgaria’s cultural and scientific achievements. Looking upon the letters written by Kiril and Methody as well as their translations of the liturgical books\, shows the fight to protect the right to honor God in their own language. It is a historical significance to the development of the Bulgarian nation and becomes part of the general human idea for equality.  \n  \n
