DESCRIPTION:“Celebrating African-American Heritage”Exhibition Duration:  2/6/14 – 2/25/14Opening:  2/7/14 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm \n The Alfa Art Gallery is proud to present its annual spotlight on “Celebrating African-American Heritage” and their artistic talent for the month of February. This rich\, cultured and diverse exhibition is a part of our own appreciation of “Black History Month”.  Alfa Art Gallery invites established and emerging African American artists to reveal their individual perception and expression as it pertains to their artwork.  \nAlfa hopes to engage\, inspire and enlighten the guests of the gallery on the deep-rooted extensions of African-American and Black Artists.  Our primary focus on African-American artists will show how their culture continues to influence the identity and changing face of American Art.  Alfa Art Gallery celebrates the distinguished history of the art and culture of Africa and/or the Caribbean as well. The artists in this exhibition include Lanre Buraimoh\, Kimberly Camp\, Erica Jones\, Ibou Ndoye\, Roberta Rose\, and lended art from Vera Raskin from The Raskin Family collection.  \n Foreshadowing to this exciting exhibition\, guests of Alfa will experience the diverse culmination of the works of these artists. The Batik work of Lanre Buraimoh\, and his dual characteristic style is formed by his training under the tutelage of his parents and his reaction to Yoruban Society.  Kimberly Camp has shown her work in over 100 solo and group exhibitions including the Smithsonian.  Upon viewing her handmade doll “Shepherd’s Kept Watch” the guest can feel the solemn presence the piece brings.   Erica Jones’ Mural work won awards for her painting in Highland Park\, which ties nicely together New Brunswick and African-American Heritage. The City of New Brunswick is an eclectic mix of a Cultural Hub\, where diversity is celebrated and enjoyed. The struggles\, triumphs\, progression and reinvention of what it means to be African-American/Black also nationally resonates as we currently have a Black President.  What an impact and recognition it is to celebrate “African-American Heritage.”  We hope to see you at our rich and powerful exhibition. \nFeatured Artists in this Exhibition: \n\nErica Jones\nIbou Ndoye\nKimberly Camp\nLanre Buraimoh\nRoberta Rose\nVera Raskin
