Artist Statement

Jill Caporlingua - Stop No GoMy work has progressed in stages over the past 20 years, from pure abstraction to classical drawing, but a continuous theme contemplating science and the human body form a thread throughout my collection.

I consider questions such as: What makes us human? What unites us and what separates us? Analysis of the inner and outer manifestations of the human form seemed the best way to fulfill this query.

Jill Caporlingua - Electric AmoebaThese questions lead me to a series of pointillist paintings from 1997-the present that are an exploration of the inner body, at times united with a classical study of the human figure. Viewing images of microscopic cells, diseases, and DNA strands inspired the use of this technique.

Most of my paintings are in acrylic and oils, utilizing a bold, almost electric color palette.
