Sarah Smith received her BFA Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions in New Jersey, New York, Florida, and Missouri.

Sarah Smith’s work draws attention to the current environmental threats that endangered species face. She represents these animals are more than just nature but as works of art themselves. The series of “portraits” of the animals encourage the viewer to reconsider their relationships to animals and their current situations. Smith’s work gives the animals a sense of protection, the space within the canvas acts as a safe environment where no one else can enter. They are given their own area where we, as the viewer, can only observe from a distance.
