ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The effort behind my work is to get the viewer to disengage from the rigidity of having to know an answer. I am trying to encourage the viewer to connect with what he/she is feeling while considering the work; to spend time really looking. In this society, we have been trained to try and figure everything out. I am encouraging people to connect with groundlessness, because in the end there is no right answer.
The beginning of my process usually involves very little planning or conceptualization. My process is more like the quiet flow of undirected thought. It becomes a ballet and usually I feel like the product looks good when the process felt good. My work accentuates the play between texture, movement, color and design, and the goal is to create works that contain layers aching to be peeled back.
I have exhibited my work at the Peddie School and Art Station (Hightstown), at galleries in NJ and CA, and in juried shows at the Philadelphia Sketch Club and Mercer County College.
BIO
Linda Gebhard was born in Montreal, Canada and spent most of her childhood in Luzern, Switzerland before immigrating to the United States in 1976. She is a self-taught artist. Over relative few years, her methods of expression have moved from photography, to digital collage, to painting. Her focus for the last five years has been painting, and her works are predominantly mixed media collages. Linda often uses photographs that she has taken during her travels as inspiration.
