About Leah Schoenlank

“I begin by looking through old magazines for black and white images, focusing on figural, textural, geometric, and high contrastelements. They vary from representational to abstract. I then combine these images together through collage creating an impossible dreamlike space with a push and pull of perspective as well as reality. Limited accents of color create tension and further abstract the space. The resulting arrangement creates an otherworldly feeling with representational images to root the viewer in reality, but juxtaposed with the abstract elements to create that warped eerie feeling often experienced in dreams.”
