Alfa Art Gallery is proud to present the latest body of work by Bulgarian-born painter Lidia Simeonova at the Bulgarian Consulate in New York (click for directions), entitled “Face Off”. This group of large -scale paintings explores the expressive power of figurative art and portraiture. Highly stylized yet sensitive, Simeonova’s boldly lined paintings are embedded with abstraction and mysterious narrative. The dramatic figures in her paintings all have something to say, whether illuminated with bright, bold colors and leaping from the canvas or fighting tensely across the space within the frame. An impeccable sense of line and distinctly playful touch combine to create engaging, flowing images full of life, movement, and vibrant energy.
Simeonova was educated at the Veliko Tarnovo University of Fine Arts in Bulgaria where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. After leaving her native country she traveled through numerous European countries before settling in America, all of which have significantly shaped her life and art alike. Her paintings mirror this constantly transformative process: “My artwork is a reflection of my life. I have projected frozen moments -- good and bad -- onto the canvas. As my style and personality matured, I traveled the world. My artwork tells a story -- my story, of the different periods in my personal and creative life.”
