Vanessa McCowan

Time is one of those tricky aspects of life which one cannot control or even truly grasp. Everything is mutable, changing.  I paint to collect an aspect of a subject and put it to canvas so as to capture both the multifaceted nature of change in the subject as well as a specific moment in time. The creation of a painting takes time; however, the end result is a point in time, stuck, and unchanging for millennia. It is this dichotomy that I try to explore with my work, the dichotomy between the reality of the moment and how we ... (click here for more information about Vanessa McCowan)

Waqas Farid

I started photography midway through college, as something auxiliary to my political science and philosophy education. However, photography quickly turned into the primary focus of my education. It became a sort of intellectual glue, a way of connecting and bonding ideas. It became more than just art:  it became my way of processing the world. Photography allowed a certain kind of freedom from the normal social constraints. I could walk up to strangers with a camera, speak with them at ease, and photograph them. It also allowed a freedom of seeing:  looking through the viewfinder of a camera was like peering into the noumenal realm; nothing was taken for granted and everything had a certain importance and validity. There are a series of ongoing themes and concepts that I have become ... (click here for more information about Waqas Farid)

Meredith Klein

Meredith Klein holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts and is in the process of completing a BA in mathematics at Rutgers University. She has recently been working through and researching the overlap of these two disciplines, and the ways that math is perceived in an arts context, and the way that art is perceived in a math context. She is working on a paper called "Groups and Symmetry," which takes a look at the 17 possible two-dimensional symmetries, principally through the works of R.L.E. Schwartzenberger and M.C. Escher, a mathematician and an artist, respectively, who approached the same topic through their very distinct disciplines. Inspired by the Daina Taimina's crocheted hyperbolic models, Meredith has also begun exploring model-making. "A = 10e^.038x" uses a simple exponential growth formula ... MUSIC:

Generator Drone will introduce Ja’c with a 25 minute exploration in three modes consisting of various forms of tape echo and delay, real time looping and lush reverberation.  The duo includes Dan Diana on drums and Spds and Billy Perez on guitar, theremin, and raagini machine. Stylistically, it sounds eastern; think Ravi Shankar meets Wolf Eyes.

Ja'c is a band led by Ritchie Monteiro. Other members include: Katie Campo, Tom Millet, Bob Hackimer, Ryan Shafer, Andrew Dodemaide and Andrew Conte. All have been in or are presently in music projects of their own, but are indulging the idea of bringing more untraditional instruments to the surface. The ensemble of instruments include: Ritchie - vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, ukulele, percussion, accordion, trumpet, harmonica, Tom - bass, acoustic guitar, vocals, ukulele, Kate - accordion, violin, piano, vocals, Bob - drums, percussion, vocals, Ryan - Saxophone, percussion, Andrew D - Violin, percussions, Andrew C - Trumpet. Ja’c songwriting influences are broad, ranging from folk, jazz, Spanish flamenco, country, Eastern European, blues, classical and many more. Art will also play an integral role to the band, led by Gary Bennett and Ritchie Monteiro. Ja'c can be seen playing venues in the months to come. Check back on this sight for clips of new music and artwork by Ja'c.
