We are proud to announce “East + West: Photographs of New York and Japan by Andrew Darlow.” This is the second solo exhibition of Andrew Darlow’s photographs at Alfa Art Gallery. The show continues until September 16th. A photographic slideshow and lecture: “A Trip Around the World,” will be presented by Andrew Darlow at 7:00 pm, and a poster print signing will follow, featuring exhibition images from New York City and Japan.

Darlow’s photographs offer a unique look at iconic monuments from opposite corners of the globe. His images of Japan draw from a series of work entitled “Approaching Nirvana: A Modern Day Look at the Influence of Buddhism in Japan.” Offering a vastly different look and feel, Darlow’s Japan photographs are exhibited alongside images of the illustrious architecture of New York City from a series entitled GRANDmarks – NYC.

“Bringing together these two series of work was a real joy for me. Both Japan and New York City hold a very special place in my heart, and the people who I’ve come to know while visiting, studying and working in both places have had a profound influence on my life. I hope that my story and images encourage others to visit other countries and to learn about the history and culture of other places.”

Two printing workshops by Andrew Darlow will also be held at Alfa Art Gallery on Saturday 9/12/2009 and Sunday 9/13/2009.

In addition, the Alfa Art Gallery, in conjunction with the New Brunswick Free Public Library, will be presenting its second annual exhibition of summer photo contest entrants, “Xpress Yourself: Adventures in Photography” Photos exhibited will feature the various perspectives of New Brunswick and its residents. Contest winners will be announced at Alfa Art Gallery on Friday, August 28th at 6:00 pm.
